Not only are this couple completely in love, but they value people. :-)

Their wedding venue was the beautiful Dunchurch Park Hotel near Rugby; a manor house set in acres of stunning gardens. We instantly knew why they had chosen it for their day.  The weather forecast was dismal and it did, indeed, pour down for most of the day, but this was never going dampen this couple's party!

As we entered the bridal preparation room, there was joyous, fun mayhem.  Jade was having her hair done, whilst her two gorgeous girls played excitedly...   ...and that was before the other gorgeous girls, children and parents arrived. There was such a lovely atmosphere as everyone helped each other, but we did rather fill the room!

We snuck out with Jade's incredible dress; a ruched bodice with a lace, overlaid skirt, all finished off with a diamonte set. She was going to look stunning.

Jade was a perfect picture of calm and when asked simply answered that she was excited rather than nervous. Although a gift and a card with heartfelt words from James almost tested her mascara.

Speaking of the man himself, our groom was getting ready. We loved the blue suits with aqua details.

Dunchurch Park WeddingDunchurch Park Weddingwww.unique-as-you.co.uk       Dunchurch Park WeddingDunchurch Park Weddingwww.unique-as-you.co.uk

Once again it was a room full laughter, support and lots of banter... Untitled-3Untitled-3

... though a little less active than the bride's room!  Jade's daughters are very much loved by both of them and it was important to our groom that the girls felt as special as possible on the wedding day; so he arranged for the girls to meet him so that he could give them presents (even Jade didn't know)!

Untitled-1Untitled-1 Dunchurch Park WeddingDunchurch Park Weddingwww.unique-as-you.co.uk Dunchurch Park WeddingDunchurch Park Weddingwww.unique-as-you.co.uk

The hour before the service always disappears the fastest. The boys were ready in good time, the girls were a little more pushed, but perfection takes time and wasn't it worth it?!

Dunchurch Park WeddingDunchurch Park Weddingwww.unique-as-you.co.uk        Dunchurch Park WeddingDunchurch Park Weddingwww.unique-as-you.co.uk

We stole a few moments to capture some bridal portraits with Jade who looked simply exquisite.

We also managed to keep Jade's dad Keith out of of the room so that he could have a first look at his beautiful daughter. He managed to blink them back, but we did catch him welling up ;-)

So the proud parents gave their respective children a last squeeze before the ceremony.

It was time and as James turned to see his bride, the look said it all...

In the meantime the girls were given the task of watching the weather and telling us if there was a break in the wind and rain! Dunchurch Park WeddingDunchurch Park Weddingwww.unique-as-you.co.uk

Despite the air being damp and the ground wet and muddy, Jade and James were determined to get outside into the grounds for a few photographs. As Jade said, "I am never going to wear this dress again, but our photographs will be forever."  We could not have said it better and were determined to do them proud.

From the ornate door canopy and steps of the house...

Dunchurch Park WeddingDunchurch Park Weddingwww.unique-as-you.co.uk Dunchurch Park WeddingDunchurch Park Weddingwww.unique-as-you.co.uk

...we took a gentle stroll along rain soaked paths to the main harden staircase.  Although we had been unable to take the group photographs there, Jade was determined to have a veil shot.

After a sumptuous meal in the beautiful Great Hall, followed by lively speeches there was a lovely lull when guests could relax, chat and refresh. Our game couple were happy to have more photographs; determined to create some lifetime memories...

We left to the sound of much laughter and merriment, knowing that the newly married couple had the images they had been so trusting to get.  Not many couples will risk getting wet because their photographers have told them that backlit rain at the gates will look like stars. Thank you both - you were amazing. <3

Greenway Hotel Cheltenham Wedding of Rachel and Richard https://www.liz-and-stuart.co.uk/blog/2016/9/greenway-hotel-cheltenham-wedding-of-rachel-and-richard “Love recognises no barriers. It jumps hurdles and leaps fences to arrive at its destination full of hope.”

—Maya Angelou

Quite apt for a couple who met at Cheltenham Racecourse!  Richard and Rachel are perfectly matched to go the full course.  They know what they want and work together to achieve it.  This is the couple who threw a house move into the same period as their wedding!!!

The couple chose the exquisite Greenway Hotel and Spa in Cheltenham as their venue, an award winning, luxury hotel in Gloucestershire.

Richard arrived in style and was soon dressed in style to match. The purple ties gave a clue to the colour theme of the day, and were set off perfectly by cream jacquard waistcoats and grey suits.

The men arrived in plenty of time for some formal and less formal group photographs...  ...the boys not needing any encouragement to head to the bar!

Greenway Cheltenham Wedding PhotographerGreenway Cheltenham Wedding Photographer07583 198124 Greenway Cheltenham Wedding PhotographerGreenway Cheltenham Wedding Photographer07583 198124

Meanwhile upstairs in one of the suites the girls were getting prepared. The bride had the company of both mothers, Richard's twin sisters, her four bridesmaids and Poppy their dog. It was a hive of busy laughter and fun. The ladies opted for similar hairstyles, which were beautifully created in a mist of hairspray!

The views from The Greenway are stunning.  Unfortunately it had started to rain, so the twins opted to watch out for the florist's arrival.

The beautiful Rachel's hair was topped with a veil and, after a moment of contemplation, it was time to get her into her dress.

Rachel had chosen a slim fit gown with lace top; elegant and fitted, but with an amazing train.  It looked absolutely beautiful...

...and she looked radiant...

Greenway Cheltenham Wedding PhotographerGreenway Cheltenham Wedding Photographer

...and very classical.

Her lovely maids had gathered outside and they, and then her father, had a first look.  The reactions said it all. <3

The lovely ladies were given gifts from Rachel, each card had a personal message from her and resulted in more tears! They all have a special place in each other's hearts.

Rachel had chosen two shades of purple for the bridesmaids dresses and they looked perfect.

A knock at the door meant that it was time for Rachel to meet the celebrants.  Downstairs Richard and his parents took their places in the ceremony room...

There may have been a serious look on Richard's thoughtful face as he waited, but there was still a sense of fun at the foot end!

Rachel made her walk to her groom and, after a heartfelt shake of hands between Richard and Rachel's father, the couple could look into each other's eyes as they said their promises...

Back inside the hotel, we got our first peek at the room all ready to welcome the guests to the wedding breakfast. Each guest had a wee dram as a thank you favour, whilst the tables were elegantly dressed in purples.  The cake provided the perfect centre-piece...

Monmouth and Raglan Wedding of Emily and Kyle https://www.liz-and-stuart.co.uk/blog/2016/9/monmouth-and-raglan-wedding-of-emily-and-kyle

“My point is, life is about balance. The good and the bad. The highs and the lows. The pina and the colada.”
―
Ellen DeGeneres

Emily and Kyle have that balance... Emily likes things 'just right'. She loves lists and loves ticking things off them even more. She doesn't stop until things are 'perfect'. Sometimes, however, you need to stop, draw breath and spend time relishing what you have achieved. This is where Kyle comes in. She shoots him 'that look' with that says 'it hasn't been done properly' and he replies with a cheeky, boyish grin that makes her giggle. He will shake his head and give her a hug. They tease each other, laugh lots and somewhere in that all, the list gets ticked. She is the pina to his colada.

Monmouth wedding EK blog-3Monmouth wedding EK blog-3

Their love story began ten years ago. We are sure that when a teenage Kyle admitted to his brother and best mate that he fancied one of the girls, that neither of them expected to be get suited up ready for Emily and Kyle's wedding day!

Our beautiful bride was getting ready at her parent's house.  We were given a warm welcome and made to feel immediately 'at home'.  The house was full of people, clothes and equipment, but mostly excitement and love.

Emily's hair was softly put up in a work of art of curls, whilst her make-up was soft and natural and received the seal of approval.

The service was a morning one, so before we knew it it was time to get Emily into her dress. As her mum buttoned her up there were looks of approval from her bridesmaids. This was a perfect choice for her slim frame.

As predicted, this was a perfectly co-ordinated wedding with something for everyone, from lawn games to rugs to keep the evening chill away, from a photo wall to coloured decorations. As for the cake, it was a triumph, with a reference to Kyle's strong Welsh roots (cariad meaning love) and the delicacy of hand painted flowers.

Manor Hill House, Worcestershire Wedding of Tim and Naomi https://www.liz-and-stuart.co.uk/blog/2016/8/manor-hill-house-worcestershire-wedding-of-tim-and-naomi

“You are my best friend as well as my lover, and I do not know which side of you I enjoy

the most. I treasure each side, just as I have treasured our life together.”
                                                                                                                ―
Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook

They share a look; it is subtle and undemanding, yet conveys such deep, meaningful love. She softly smiles, one side of the mouth curving slightly more than the other and his eyes twinkle their response.  Theirs is a beautiful, natural, unconditional love based on friendship and grown from childhood moments...

...and we were given the privilege of documenting their promises of forever love. <3

Tim and Naomi had chosen to marry at Stoke Prior Church and then celebrate their wedding at Manor Hill House, an exclusive wedding venue between Bromsgrove and Droitwich. We knew that this natural couple would plan a tasteful and classic day and, even so, were surprised with just how beautiful the details were.  The tables in the marquee were topped with a selection of quirky teapot 'vases' that the couple had enjoyed collecting over the months, the cake design echoed the country flowers, the signing books, pom-poms and bunting all complimented each other perfectly. Pure understated elegance came together to make a big impact (not unlike the couple)!

We joined Naomi at Manor Hill House for bridal preparation. The staff were ensuring that Naomi and her bridesmaids had everything that they needed [and looked after us extremely well too, thank you!].  The ladies had a large, fresh and modern bedroom at their disposal.  There was an air of calm, helped by cups of tea, as we joined them for their hair and make-up.

Manor Hill House Worcestershire Wedding PhotographerManor Hill House Worcestershire Wedding PhotographerManor Hill House wedding photography

To continue the theme, the ladies had beautiful, peach dresses; two floral and one un-patterned. Naomi had chosen shorter 'tea length' dresses and we were beginning to realise that tea had a sneaky part in this wedding!  The bridesmaids were Naomi's sister and two friends.  The room was filled with chatter, laughing and tranquillity; if there wasn't a beautiful wedding dress hanging in the room, it could have almost been mistaken for a spa retreat! Manor Hill House pride themselves on looking after all aspects of the day, including providing a light lunch before the nuptials.

After checking out her make-up in the very beautifully appointed bathroom it was time for the beautiful maids to get dressed. As they helped one another into their outfits; anticipation started to grow and the aroma of hairspray was replaced by the magnificent scent from the flowers that had arrived.

Naomi's mum also joined us, looking very elegant in her outfit, as it was time to get Naomi into her astonishing Pronovias dress.  We all gasped as the ladies stood back  for the reveal!

Naomi and her ladies looked breath-taking -cheers to that!

We led dad in, with his eyes closed, for his first look of his daughter. It wasn't just Tim that was going to melt that day.

Manor Hill House Worcestershire Wedding PhotographerManor Hill House Worcestershire Wedding PhotographerManor Hill House wedding photography

Speaking of our groom; he met with Stuart ahead of the service at Stoke Prior Church.  Tim flashed his gorgeous cufflinks with their initials engraved on and ensured buttons were done up to standard!   The groomsmen were attired in very dapper blue suits with delicate pink ties.

At this point the excitement was palpable; Tim simply couldn't wait for the proceedings to begin and it was up to his Best Man to keep him calm...  ...although a sneaky hug from a nephew helped too!

At last it was 'kick off' for our football loving couple. Naomi and her father arrived at the church much to the relief of the groom...

...and we got a first peek of the beautiful bride before she made her entrance.

Theirs was to be a very personal and emotional ceremony, with all eyes on them as they exchanged vows...

And just when you thought that this wedding couldn't get any more beautiful, the vicar revealed that the church had organised a lovely surprise for Naomi's parents and grandparents to celebrate the fact that all three generations had got married in Stoke Prior Church. We thought it important to capture a special portrait of the couple as the church has such a significance in their wedding.  Manor Hill House Worcestershire Wedding PhotographerManor Hill House Worcestershire Wedding PhotographerManor Hill House wedding photography

A few moments in their company and you realise that they are two very generous and lovely people.

Their life hasn’t always been plain sailing; quite the opposite, but the challenges they have faced have just brought them closer together. In these moments they realised that they would never be alone again. Getting married was the formality.

The couple invited their closest family and friends to celebrate their wedding.  The legal ceremony was at Brecon Registry Office with the festivities at the couple’s home.

When we arrived Lisa was having her make-up expertly applied by the talented Jess Mac of Braid and Blush (www.facebook.com/braidandblush/ ). We love it when Jess makes up our brides as she enhances their beauty naturally.

Lisa had chosen a beautiful tea length dress in a floral cut out fabric; a simple dress with an intricate design from John Lewis. Her mum, Carol, helped her into it. Lisa finished her look with a pair of diamond earrings and a simple necklace. We knew that Stephen was going to melt when he saw her!

Meanwhile Stephen was fighting for space in a crowded house in order to get ready himself! A very proud Welshman, He had chosen a very dapper outfit; a Welsh kilt, shirt and bow tie. His cufflinks were Welsh dragons. This man knows how to dress to impress!

Lisa continued to have a stream of visitors; some wanting things (the downside of having a wedding at home), together with some special visitors including her father, Michael, and her lovely nephew and ring bearer, Jacob.

As the boys left for the registry office, we took the opportunity to get a few portraits of our beautiful bride. Lisa had butterflies at this point and just wanted to be with her Stephen.

At last it was the moment that Lisa and Stephen had been waiting months for; the moment they could make their lifelong promises to each other. The room was full of love as the couple exchanged their vows...

...and finally rings before signing the register.

Back at home the rain and wind was replaced with glorious sunshine and the garden party fit for royalty got underway. Lisa and Stephen had made sure that there was something for the guests of all ages. The children had a play corner and sweet trolley, whilst the grown ups had a selection of drinks from tea to bubbly (and some had both)!!

The children had been bridesmaids and paige boys and all had a special place in the day.

It was time to cut the cake that had been made by Lisa and her, now, mother-in-law Shelagh. This was to be dessert after the delicious hog roast and buffet.

There were two photographs that Lisa really wanted; a confetti shot...

...and a heart shot with all her guests.

Brecon wedding photographerBrecon wedding photographer07583 198124

At this point the weather does what it does best in Brecon; change!!  The grey clouds rolled in and the Heavens opened and we mean opened! We sneaked our lovely newlyweds upstairs to the only quiet spot in the house for some photographs on their own.

Now this is a couple in love...

Hyde Barn Cotswold Wedding Photography of Sam and Richard https://www.liz-and-stuart.co.uk/blog/2016/7/hyde-barn-cotswold-wedding-photography-of-sam-and-richard

Sam and Rich met at University through Sam's love of dancing and Rich's love of American Football, which led them to cross paths at an event.  Much texting took place over the Christmas holidays and friends and family knew something special was happening.

They are a very much in love and the little gifts, words and looks that were exchanged throughout the day leaves you in no doubt that they have found their soulmate in each other.

The couple had chosen Hyde Barn, Stow on the Wold as their wedding venue.  This a purpose built wedding venue next to The Fosse Manor Hotel so provides accommodation as well as beautiful countryside vistas. The staff are incredibly helpful too!

Sam and her girlfriends had use of the bridal room, which is lovely and light and offers space for hair and make-up as well as a chilling zone on the plump sofas.

Whilst Sam was having her hair and make up done, her bridesmaids presented her with a box filled with cards from special people in her life. Each one was filled with loving words and it was fair to say that most of the eyes in the room were filled with tears!

Sam was amazingly relaxed; although someone who loves details and organisation she had done what she could and was determined to enjoy her day. She described herself as excited more than nervous.  Her gorgeous bridesmaids helped her into her dress before her stepdad was brought into the room with his eyes closed for his first look.  After which another make-up refresh was required!!

We wanted to capture the beautiful bride looking serene in the natural light from the windows. She looked simply stunning.

Meanwhile in the hotel next door Richard was getting prepped, a dab hand with a cut throat razor...   ...and a steady hand. The groomsmen wore tweed waistcoats, yellow ties (Rich's was blue) and black trousers.

At last it was nearly time for the ceremony and both parties were ready; the gents and Rich's parents looking very dapper (and elegant!)...

... whilst the girls looked gorgeous in their dresses in various shades of blue. All of the flowers were created with love by Sam's grandma.

Even though the rain and wind had moved in, which meant that they could not have the ceremony outside, nothing could dampen their spirits.  There were audible gasps as Sam entered a very full and warm ceremony room. The look between them as they saw each other for the first time was heart melting.

After a civil service, including two readings (and some one liners from Richard!), the couple were pronounced married. Just in time the rain stopped and the guests were able to spill outside into the gardens. The couple had decided to cut their cake straight after the ceremony which was a lovely touch and gave guests a nibble whilst the group photographs got underway...

...including a request shot which had us all laughing. :-)

We just about managed some couple shots before it was time for the meal... ...hopefully capturing the mixed nature of the weather - sun, cloud, sun, wind...

The guests entered a beautifully decorated room with lots of tasteful details.  For anyone who knows Sam and her love of Pintrest this was no surprise! Name badges, lucky coins, quizzes and so much more could be found on the tables.  After the speeches the guests were served a sumptuous three course meal.

The evening entertainment included a bouncy castle, outdoor games, live music (including friends), photo frames and a disco.  There was much fun and laughter as everyone got into the spirit of the day.  These guys know how the party...   ...and make use of a balcony!

As the sun set we enjoyed taking a few last photographs in the dying light and the sky, at last, obliged us with some colour for our bride and groom.

Tewkesbury pre- wedding shoot by Tewkesbury Abbey and river for Naomi and Tim https://www.liz-and-stuart.co.uk/blog/2016/7/tewkesbury-pre--wedding-shoot-by-tewkesbury-abbey-and-river-for-naomi-and-tim What a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon! We are so lucky to love what we do and when we get to work with amazing couples too, we know that we are very lucky!

Naomi and Tim's love story was always meant to be. They have always know each other as their parents are good friends. It wasn't until Naomi was at university that this beautiful duo started to date.

Wedding Photography Tewkesbury Tewkesbury Wedding PhotographerEngagement photographs at Tewkesbury before summer wedding. Wedding Photography Tewkesbury Tewkesbury Wedding PhotographerEngagement photographs at Tewkesbury before summer wedding.

Naomi and Tim are a very natural couple in every way; natural with each other and they share of a love of the natural, simple things in life. Their first date was fish and chips on the bench by the river. So we just had to re-visit the spot!

Wedding Photography Tewkesbury Tewkesbury Wedding PhotographerEngagement photographs at Tewkesbury before summer wedding. Wedding Photography Tewkesbury Tewkesbury Wedding PhotographerEngagement photographs at Tewkesbury before summer wedding.

The couple were living and working apart and Tewkesbury was the halfway point. They know it well.

Wedding Photography Tewkesbury Tewkesbury Wedding PhotographerEngagement photographs at Tewkesbury before summer wedding. Wedding Photography Tewkesbury Tewkesbury Wedding PhotographerEngagement photographs at Tewkesbury before summer wedding.

A year later a very nervous Tim took Naomi to their bench and proposed!

So it was with great joy to photograph their pre- wedding session in Tewkesbury, with Tewkesbury Abbey and the river as a backdrop. The first date saw torrential rain, but we were gifted wonderful sunshine on the second try. Even the sun couldn't outshine these two.

Caer Llan wedding of Emily and Sarah https://www.liz-and-stuart.co.uk/blog/2016/4/caer-llan-wedding-of-emily-and-sarah Well it may have been St George's Day, but this wedding brought together the Scots and the Welsh. Emily's Scottish and Sarah's Welsh roots were cleverly celebrated with little touches throughout the day; a tasteful intertwining of two             .

The setting for this beautiful day was none other than the stunning Caer Llan, perched on the hill overlooking the fabulous rolling hills of Monmouthshire. Not only does its location take your breath away, but Jake and Vicky make sure that couples are looked after in every way; a very special experience.

Jessica (a part of the Jess Mac Creative Team) styled the hair of all the bridesmaids and Sarah, whilst Emily tamed her own locks. The ladies wanted fresh, natural looking make-up and Jess did a wonderful job.

The ladies both chose fitted wedding dresses. Emily's had lace aplique, a train and a very clever heart design on the shoulders, whilst Sarah's had a fitted rouched top and was set off beautifully with beads. We knew that they were going to be completely wowed when they saw each other...

...but we tested this theory out on Emily's father first!

At last it was time to gather people before the ceremony; Emily and her bridesmaids and siblings...

...and Sarah with hers.

And so after the formalities (framed by the most amazing views), the ladies could walk into the Welsh sunshine together as one to their favourite Take That song.

Miskin Manor, Cardiff Wedding of Amy & Jon. https://www.liz-and-stuart.co.uk/blog/2016/4/miskin-manor-cardiff-wedding-of-amy-jon If you are very lucky in life then you will get to meet Amy and Jon.  This couple are simply wonderful.  So it is no surprise that their day was one surrounded by lovely people; both family and friends.

Amy was getting ready at her parent’s house. Ken and Annette made us feel very welcome. We were strong and turned down the bacon sandwiches, in favour of capturing the moments…   …but there is photographing evidence that Ken is the king of sandwiches!  Instead we started capturing the details of the day.

Amy had already had her hair put up and was having her make-up expertly applied. Both her hair and make-up would look amazing twelve hours later.

The sneaky groom sent over a card with beautiful words in the verse (a man of few words himself ;-)  ) and then 'broke the rules' with a gift. He adores his bride.

Amy had five adult bridesmaids and two flower girls; no surprise that they were all very close including friends, family and god children. The ladies looked after Amy completely and really were fabulous maids to the bride.

At last she was ready for the reveal to her parents, who then gave her the missing blue item to her ensemble!

In the meantime Jon was with his best mates and family, creating havoc on the roads before entering the church!

The colour scheme was light greens and pinks; shown here in the bridesmaid's dresses.  Amy's bouquet was a stunning, hand tied one, whilst the girls had simple, but eye catching gypsophilia.  A lovely Spring combination.

Greenway Hotel, Cheltenham Wedding of Heather and Andy https://www.liz-and-stuart.co.uk/blog/2016/2/greenway-hotel-cheltenham-wedding-of-heather-and-andy From the moment we were invited into the home of Heather and Andy we knew that this was going to be a very special and personal wedding. They met five years ago and, although we could make a joke about how alcohol was involved, their love is unquestionable. We joined them to discuss their wedding plans and also capture some engagement and family photographs. We left feeling very touched by the joy, fun and love of this family whose shared values are obvious.

Heather and Andy chose the magnificent Greenway Hotel and Spa in Cheltenham to host their amazing wedding day.  We joined Heather in the Oak room. She had chosen a beautiful slimline dress decorated with beads and lace which had a matching shrug.

Andy's girls were bridesmaids and really enjoyed having their hair and make-up done. When it was time for their dresses to go on, there was an audible gasp, followed by, "I look like a princess!" Like all princesses they were gifted special jewellery for the occasion.

Even William, the family dog, was involved and looked wooftastic in his doggy corsage.

Her friend and hairdresser, Beverley, had convinced our bride to put her hair up as she always has it down. It was the perfect choice with the dress - she looked absolutely stunning. Andy was one very lucky man!

Once dressed, Heather's 'boys' arrived; looking very dashing we think! Mum's look got enthusiastic approval.

In the meantime our debonair groom was getting dressed with his wingman, Gareth. We loved the ice blue waistcoats and white cravats.

Many countries believe that rain on a wedding day brings good luck; in which case Heather and Andy will enjoy a lifetime of luck.  This did mean that, sadly, we could not use the beautiful grounds for the formal photographs. So after a little furniture moving, we returned to the ceremony room. The guests were fabulous at working with us even though it got a little cosy at times. William was ready to pose once more.

The wedding breakfast room was tastefully dressed in large floral centre pieces.  The centrepiece was the amazing 'naked' cake which was placed on a gorgeous slice of wood.

We just had to photograph the wedding rings on one of the thistles from the arrangements.

After their sumptuous meal we managed to steal the couple away for some photographs...

... and got them back into the bar just as their evening guests started to arrive.  The guests were entertained by a band til the early hours of the morning.

We wish Heather, Andy and their family every happiness. This is a family that truly deserves it.

Clodock, Herefordshire Wedding of Beth and Oli https://www.liz-and-stuart.co.uk/blog/2015/12/clodock-herefordshire-wedding-of-beth-and-oli Oli and Beth are countryside people through and though; farming is in their blood. So it was no surprise that this wedding would have a country feel and that their reception would be in a field. We were very close to nature in all ways.

Storm Desmond may have given its best shot to cause havoc on Beth and Oli's special day, but the only thing to get blown away was Oli when he saw his bride. The 55mph winds made the day a little tricky at times, but nothing was going to stop this party - it will be day that everyone will remember for a long time to come.

Inside the house, Beth was a picture of calm as she was laced into her beautiful layered fishtail gown, ably helped by her mum and daughter.

Beth normally spends her time in outdoor gear and wellies; a country girl at heart and a passionate horse rider. So we are going to just enjoy a moment seeing her in her very girly dress ;-)

Our groom, Oli, scrubbed up well and when we say scrubbed up we mean it.  When we first caught up with him early in the morning he was creating hardstanding for the marquee and was covered in mud! Oli was determined to give Beth the best day ever.

Wedding Photography HerefordWedding Photographer Hereford07583 198124 Wedding Photography HerefordWedding Photographer Hereford07583 198124 Wedding Photography HerefordWedding Photographer Hereford07583 198124

So after all his hard work, it was only fair that he had a pint with his two best men before the service!

Wedding Photography HerefordWedding Photographer Hereford07583 198124

This wedding was very much a family affair. It was important to the couple that they got married in their local church, which they both attend. Oli and friends had worked really hard to make this beautiful, old church look festive. It was bedecked with holly and ivy, candles and fairy lights.

Wedding Photography HerefordWedding Photographer Hereford07583 198124 Wedding Photography HerefordWedding Photographer Hereford07583 198124 Wedding Photography HerefordWedding Photographer Hereford07583 198124

At last it was time for the couple to be reunited. Beth arrived at the church and Oli at last got his glimpse of his beautiful wife to be.

Wedding Photography HerefordWedding Photographer Hereford(C)Unique Wedding Photography Ltd Wedding Photography HerefordWedding Photographer Hereford(C)Unique Wedding Photography Ltd

The service was very personal as the couple are well known at the church. Christmas carols were sung between the readings, poems and, of course, the vows.

Wedding Photographer HerefordWedding Photographer Hereford(C)Unique Wedding Photography Ltd Wedding Photographer HerefordWedding Photographer Hereford(C)Unique Wedding Photography Ltd

Whilst the couple signed the register, the congregation were treated to some beautiful singing, and some playfulness by the young bridesmaids.  As they left the church they were given a pitchfork guard of honour by the local Young Farmers. This was particularly impressive in the wind, which became so strong that slates came off the roof.

We decided that photographs would be staged inside! So whilst the guests made their way down the road to the marquee, we spent a few moments with the newlyweds whilst they absorbed the fact that they were now husband and wife.

Back at the marquee, the guests were welcomed with drinks and canapes before settling down to a glorious high tea. This was completed with a gorgeous 'naked' wedding cake.

Nottingham Conference Centre Wedding of Jen and John https://www.liz-and-stuart.co.uk/blog/2015/11/nottingham-conference-centre-wedding-of-jen-and-john

“It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.”

Jane Austen: Pride and Prejudice

John may not possess a financial fortune, but has a wealth of love, generosity and integrity and these values (and more) are priceless to Jen. In return, Jen is beautiful, clever and brightens any space in a quiet and unassuming way.  Her love of travel and adventurous, strong spirit is great for John. Theirs is a real love story.

Our couple share a love of the written word and first met at Nottingham Trent University, when Jen joined the library staff team and was introduced to John. Little did they know that eight years later they would be celebrating their marriage in the same room; no longer the library, but transformed into the Nottingham Conference Centre. Perfect! Of course the wedding theme was books, but also boardgames as John is a complete game geek!

The incurable romantic John was determined to make their wedding as personal as possible.  His wedding gift to Jen was to handcraft everything for the day from the cake to the bouquets, room decorations to invitations - most it out of books discarded by the library when it relocated.. Eighteen months of dedication and love.

Finally the day had dawned. Jen was getting prepared at The Orchard Hotel and was a picture of serenity. She was confident that the ladies understood her needs for her wedding day make-up and hair and  we can see why. She looked simply stunning; her natural beauty was subtly celebrated.

In a blink of an eye it was time to get Jen into her wedding dress. The v neck, fitted gown looked like it had been designed only for her. She looked amazing! Jen's gorgeous sister, Anna, and mum, Geraldine, were was on hand to help out.

The back of the dress had a bow as its centre piece.  It proved to be a little troublesome during the tying stage, but that was a theme to be repeated later with the groom!

wedding photography malvernWedding photographer Nottingham wedding photography malvernWedding photographer Nottingham

Over at the couple's home, things were purposeful and busy!  Liz, the groom's best woman, was absolutely brilliant at keeping John on task and together (having spent the last week finishing off all the jobs until the early hours of each morning with him). They looked striking in the aubergine wear (socks were funky too)!

wedding photography malvernWedding photographer Nottingham wedding photography malvernWedding photographer Nottingham

Once at the venue Liz made final adjustments to John's buttonhole made from old books and a board game meeple. This man is creative! Even his tie knot was a reference to his love of horror films and one of his favourite bands. It was an Eldridge knot for those of you who like a puzzle.

They were joined by ushers Ross and Alex and ring bearer Paris outside the tasteful, white ceremony room, which used to be a chemistry lab (now avoiding all chemistry/ alchemy jokes).

Whilst the ladies waited upstairs...

Paris was waiting downstairs with a very special ring book - another handmade item, with the couple's vows inside. Simply stunning.

wedding photography malvernWedding photographer Nottingham wedding photography malvernWedding photographer Nottingham

At last it was time for John to see his bride. When asked how he was feeling, John simply replied that he has never been so certain of anything in his life. The love between them was palpable.

wedding photography malvernWedding photographer Nottingham wedding photography malvernWedding photographer Nottingham

The ceremony was heartfelt, but also characteristically funny too. Alex had everyone laughing with his reading (and his animated delivery of it!)...

... whilst Ross delivered his beautifully with the sincerity that the words deserved.

wedding photography malvernWedding photographer Nottingham wedding photography malvernWedding photographer Nottingham

Every phrase had been chosen carefully...

wedding photography malvernWedding photographer Nottingham wedding photography malvernWedding photographer Nottingham

... and the power of words was evident as the couple exchanged rings and vows... ...and a number of us suffered from an odd watering of the eyes (which we put down to residual 100 year old fumes in the air   ;-)   )

wedding photography malvernWedding photographer Nottingham wedding photography malvernWedding photographer Nottingham wedding photography malvernWedding photographer Nottingham

Finally, John and Jen were married, much to the joy of everyone, and kissed in front of John's labour of love book arch.

The newlyweds made their exit in a shower of dried petals, most of which had come from the gardens of their guests.

After a few immediate family shots...

After a select number of family and friend shots...

... we did sneak the couple away for some photographs in the glorious Autumn colours.

wedding photography malvernWedding photographer Nottingham wedding photography malvernWedding photographer Nottingham

Despite John's spilling of blood from a wedding cake decorating injury the night before, this was no gothic horror; the couple just had a few moments to themselves and we had the privilege of capturing it.

There is no doubting the feelings of these two.

As the leaves fell it was time to go into the warm again. Just inside the doors is an original fireplace, which was apparently much appreciated by DH Lawrence.

The couple re-joined their guests upstairs in the old library for a sumptuous three course meal. The room was decorated with extraordinary game inspired vases with crafted paper flowers, library cards, homemade beer and so much more. The wedding cake was tiers of various flavours in a book design.

The couple were toasted, many times, with home-made elderflower champagne.  Apart from being (apparently) delicious, it also helped all of the guests get in the right frame of mind to join in with the requested heart shaped group photograph underneath the glass ceiling with its pencil beams!

As the evening progressed, many of the guests connected with friends and made new acquaintances as they played various board games...

The end to a gloriously emotional day and the start of a new phase of life. Congratulations to you both. True soulmates.

Treowen House Wedding of Lizzy and Henry https://www.liz-and-stuart.co.uk/blog/2015/10/treowen-house-wedding-of-lizzy-and-henry Lizzy and Henry met five years ago and fell in love.  It is not hard to see why; this is a couple who are really comfortable with each other and what they want from their life together.  Henry likes to be laid back, although knows what is important to him... and Lizzy is his number one.  We suspect that he is the perfect antidote to her stressful work life.  Lizzy is warm and friendly and understands Henry very well.

The couple wanted a family centred wedding in the countryside and chose the characterful Treowen House, which they had the exclusive use of for the weekend.  The house has a fabulous history - search for it on YouTube.  The large rooms with their high leaded windows and time worn oak floors provided the perfect setting for the celebrations.

We  popped in on the Friday, after the wedding rehearsal, for another look around.  The family was just starting the big job of decorating and we couldn't believe the transformation by the next morning!

Lizzy and Henry opted for natural materials and recycled items; to reflect their love of the outdoors and Henry's gardening. The place settings were decorated with flowers, packets of seeds and home-made jelly.  The rooms were bedecked with home-made bunting and fairy lights and the 'signing book' was pebbles for their garden.  Many generations of their families were present in the eclectic mix of family photo frames.

We walked in to find Lizzy sitting sipping a glass of bubbly on a sofa in the drawing room; a beautiful space for bridal preparation! Sarah from Bouff was busy with little Florence, the flower girl, before working her magic on our bride.

Lizzy was very careful about who she chose to be part of her day and trusts Sarah completely.  The reaction of Lizzy's mum, Clare, said it all!

Treowen House Monmouth Wedding PhotographyTreowen House Monmouth Wedding Photographer(C)Unique Wedding Photography Ltd

Lizzy's maids were her two lovely friends and these gorgeous ladies were just wonderful; nothing was too much for them to ensure that Lizzy's preparations ran smoothly. Helen even had a Bride's Emergency Kit! The girls looked lovely in their robes and we just had to capture them looking fabulous:

At last it was time for Lizzy to put on her stunning beaded cream dress to be topped with a lace trimmed cream veil.  After a final check; very eager hands helped her into her gown.

Treowen House Monmouth Wedding PhotographyTreowen House Monmouth Wedding Photographer(C)Unique Wedding Photography Ltd Treowen House Monmouth Wedding PhotographyTreowen House Monmouth Wedding Photographer

Her jewellery was simple as the gown did all the talking! She looked absolutely stunning and we couldn't wait to see Henry's face when he saw his lovely Lizzy walking down the aisle.

Treowen House Monmouth Wedding PhotographyTreowen House Monmouth Wedding Photographer Treowen House Monmouth Wedding PhotographyTreowen House Monmouth Wedding Photographer Treowen House Monmouth Wedding PhotographyTreowen House Monmouth Wedding Photographer

But first it was time for another man to capture a first glimpse of Lizzy - her father, Basil.  He is not known for exuberant facial expressions, but even Basil's face couldn't help but show his joy at seeing his daughter.

Meanwhile, in the busy metropolis of Usk (well small, rural town), the groom and boys had gathered in the Three Salmons Hotel.  The guys looked fabulous in their outfits. The shirts, ties, trousers and jackets were bought as separate components.  The ties had pheasants in flight on - unique and oh so dapper!

Henry 's twin brothers, father and best friend were on hand to keep in check (or lead him astray - we  are not really certain). After a little 'bonding' over a beer, they made the short walk to St Francis Xavier RC Church.

At last the Lovely Lizzy was ready to join her Henry at the alter.  Henry may have taken a little while to get round to the proposal (managing to just get it in before his 31st birthday), but this was a union that was meant to be.

The newlyweds travelled back to Treowen in a shiny Beaufort.  Friends and family joined them on the lawns for photographs before enjoying drinks and canapes, croquet and lawn games.

After enjoying time with their guests the couple slipped away for their couple's photos. Henry is a real character and we just enjoyed watching him being Henry and making Lizzy laugh.

Cwrt Bleddyn Usk Wedding of Cathy and Ashley https://www.liz-and-stuart.co.uk/blog/2015/9/cwrt-bleddyn-usk-wedding-of-cathy-and-ashley Cathy and Ashley wanted a colourful wedding with friends very much at the centre. Cathy and her bridesmaids are full of fun and are very close friends. We found the girls sat on the bed supping bubbly and eating Dorritos ... except for the bride who admitted it was safer to stay sober until the vows had been said!

We found the shoes arranged ready for their photo.  They were a little keener than the lovely flower girl, Cathy and Ashley's daughter, to be photographed.  She was a little camera shy to start off with, but we soon managed those princess shots

Downstairs the boys were waiting. Ashley was ably assisted by James, his best man, and usher Joe.  The boys looked dapper in their royal blue suits and we loved the red bow ties - very patriotic!  They wanted different and we think they looked great!

Afterwards the sunshine beckoned and the guests were able to appreciate their drinks in the beautiful gardens of  the Cwrt Bleddyn Hotel. After a  dove release with doves supplied by Lovey Dovey, we took the group shots and had fun with the confetti.

Llansantffraed Court Wedding of Jo and Mike https://www.liz-and-stuart.co.uk/blog/2015/8/llansantffraed-court-wedding-of-jo-and-mike Jo and Mike met at University and a humorous friendship blossomed into a romance. Mike proposed whilst on a skiing holiday with Jo and her family, much to the delight of all concerned.  Due to their work commitments they set a date for the wedding only a few months afterwards. Thankfully the family, but particularly Jo's mum, was on hand to get this operation completed with military precision and with lots of classical touches too!

The wedding took place at St Cadoc's Church in the village of Raglan.  The bride got ready with her family around her.  We were given a warm welcome into the family home and could hear Jo's familiar giggle before we had even stepped into the hall!

Jo's dress and accessories were stunning in their classic simplicity. This was going to be a very tasteful affair!

From here on in you might see that swords were quite a feature of the day - from the father of the bride's ceremonial blade to the groomsmen's...

Whilst Jo was driven he short distance to the church, the men walked over the road. The service was very personal and included readings, poems and a few giggles. The register was signed in front of a window commemorating Lord Raglan, himself an officer in the British Army. It was completely befitting that the newly married couple left the church through a guard of honour.  Not only had the couple got a new marital status, but Mike had been presented with his first medal just prior to the wedding ceremony.

The reception party made their way to the Llansantffraed Court Hotel, set in rolling Monmouthshire countryside. This 4 star hotel did not disappoint. Not only was it beautiful, but everything from the food to the service of the staff was top notch.

The colour theme was that of Help for Heroes and the couple even staged a raffle for the charity after their sumptuous meal.  Whilst the guests spilled out onto the patio and lawns to chat, relax and play croquet, we sneaked our newlyweds away for some couple photographs.

There was only one way to finish off the photographs ... with a guard of honour in sparklers.

Finally it was time to say goodnight to the wedding party and this fabulous day.  We walked away from the house with the sound of laughter filling the night air...  ...and Jo's giggles could still be heard.

Celtic Manor Wedding of Sheryl and Matt https://www.liz-and-stuart.co.uk/blog/2015/8/celtic-manor-wedding-of-sheryl-and-matt After a week of rain and wind the day could not have been brighter.  Sunny, but not too hot. Matt and Sheryl met at The Celtic Manor and it has had a special place in their hearts ever since.

Celtic Manor Wedding PhotographyCeltic Manor Wedding Photographer(C)Unique Wedding Photography Ltd

We met Sheryl on the top floor in one of the very spacious Presidential Suites at the Celtic Manor.  She was very relaxed, helped by a little bubbly ;-)  Once we had been shown around (and stopped getting lost!!), we set about photographing Sheryl's beautiful dress and accessories.

Sheryl had two young bridesmaids, one of who was her daughter and the other her niece.

It was quite lovely having space for the bride to get ready without falling over things - and space we had in metres!

In the meantime, Matt and his best man, Leighton, were getting dressed in a room a couple of floors below. This was punctuated by the arrival of a gift from Sheryl of some Penderyn (Welsh) whisky, which had to be sampled of course!

The Celtic Manor arranged for transport to the suite at the top of the grounds where all the guests were assembled.  Matt was looking slightly nervous, but broke into the most amazing smile as soon as he saw the beautiful Sheryl.  The service was very personal and Sheryl's 11 year old son read beautifully and made everyone proud!

After drinks, guests enjoyed the spectacular views whilst the group photos were taken.

Afterwards everyone was treated to a wonderful three course meal in the permanent marquee.

Even though the groom disappeared for over an hour... ...well the site is huge(!), we finally managed to get some family and couple's shots in before the evening guests arrived.

We wish them a very happy life together.  If the amount of kisses and laughs are anything to go by.... they will!

Llechwen Hall Wedding of Aimee and Kelvin https://www.liz-and-stuart.co.uk/blog/2015/8/llechwen-hall-wedding-of-aimee-and-kelvin This was always going to be a fun wedding. Seven girls in a hotel room and a group of matelots at the pub; quite a riotous start to the day! When we arrived to meet the girls, Aimee was looking very relaxed and chilled, just letting the stress of the other ladies wash over. Even when there was a panic about getting EVERY dress laced, she remained calm.

Meanwhile in Magor, the men were assembled and in true Navy fashion toasting the groom. It wasn't just the hats that were stacking up!

Although a beautiful service, this wedding party managed to bring some fun into the church - even when sitting either side of the aisle!

The rain kindly gave us a break just in time to let us get our newly married couple to the car for their, not so quick, getaway.

And after nearly an hour and a half in a classic car, they arrived at Llechwen Hall. It might be fair to say that Kelvin was glad to stretch his legs.

Alas this did mean that we only had a few minutes to get some couples photos before they entered their meal.

Despite the weather, the staff at the beautiful Llechwen Hall helped us make the most of the dry we had!  We suspect that there were many hangovers by the end of the evening.

We wish Aimee, Kelvin and the boys are very happy life together.

Raglan Castle wedding (pre) shoot: Mike and Jo https://www.liz-and-stuart.co.uk/blog/2015/8/raglan-castle-wedding-pre-shoot-mike-and-jo The strength of Raglan Castle and the beauty of its surroundings provide the perfect parallels for this relationship.  Jo's family live in Raglan and her parent's house can be seen from the battlements so it was an easy choice for their pre-wedding shoot.

Usk Castle Wedding of Ruth and Sebastien https://www.liz-and-stuart.co.uk/blog/2015/7/usk-castle-wedding-of-ruth-and-sebastien Ruth and Sebastien got to be king and queen of Usk Castle for the day as they hosted their wedding day.  It was quite a multi-cultural affair with Ruth's side of the family travelling from as far as the Caribbean and Seb's family and friends from France.

The couple met nine years ago.  It wasn't always easy as they spent many times apart. Thankfully this only made them stronger and Seb proposed last year.

Ruth's mother made the beautiful multi-layered dress. What a beautiful labour of love. The train was simply stunning!

When we arrived, our bride was very chilled. Ruth's best friend from college was her bridesmaid and another friend her make-up artist.  Both girls were great at following Ruth's lead and staying calm.

wedding photographer usk-4wedding photographer usk-4 wedding photographer usk-3wedding photographer usk-3(C)Unique Wedding Photography Ltd

Sebastien had great support from his Best Man; not only a best friend, but a handy translator for our instructions to the French guests. We did try the odd phrase, but photograph better than we speak French it turns out!

wedding photographer usk-7wedding photographer usk-7 wedding photographer usk-7wedding photographer usk-7

Ruth chose to walk to the castle, which was simply lovely.  There was much giggling as they climbed the path!!  Couples get married in the tythe barn which is wonderfully cool in the summer heat.

Usk Castle Wedding photographyUsk Castle Wedding photography wedding photographer usk-10wedding photographer usk-10

So after the obligatory chat with the celebrant, Ruth was ready to be walked down the centre of the barn to her waiting groom. The atmosphere was electric!

The castle owners allow the use of their beautiful gardens for an hour after the wedding.  The new Dr and Mrs Sicre chose to have their groups photographs there with the castle tower and barn as their backdrops. There was then a family bonding exercise as all the chairs were carried up to the castle grounds which housed a stunning marquee.

The guests were welcomed with champagne and local ciders. Seb is a food fan and it was really important to both of them to share local produce with the guests, but particularly the French guests. They had even sourced local cheeses to give the French a run for their money ;-)  After a sumptuous four course meal provided by Sugarloaf Catering and washed down with plenty of wine produced by one of Seb's relations, we snook the couple out for some more personal shots in the warm evening sunlight.

After cutting the cake and their first dance, the guests partied the night away to the sound of Ruth's brother's band. They provided just the right energy to get everyone up on their feet.

As the stars came out we took some of our last images before wishing our couple goodnight.

The larger than life character of Valentino Rossi was a big draw on Sunday, but there were many fabulous 'stars'... John McGuiness, James Martin, Nico Rosberg, The Red Arrows, Agostini, Jackie Stewart, Ken Block, Richard Petty, Suzie Wolff.... the list is endless..

Initially disappointed that Lewis Hamilton and Guy Martin weren't attending, those that did more than made up for it!

The bride and groom wanted a cosy, family wedding and it was just that.

Lisajane's wedding dress was stunning - an ivory, fitted dress with gold embroidery and beading detail, which she set off perfectly with a short veil.

Dave and Carla met through work.  Dave is a mechanic and Carla is a service advisor at Land Rover.  It was no surprise what the wedding cars were then!  When the cars drew up outside, Carla positively squealed with delight at seeing the gorgeous royal blue Range Rover Sport SVR. Interestingly their  4 year old daughter had a similar response when her mummy arrived at the church!

The bride wore a stunning, beaded gown that fitted and flared in all the right places and sparkly heels.  This was set off with a sumptuous cathedral length veil - very fitting as the couple got married in the majestic Brecon Cathedral before partying away in a huge marquee in a friend's field.  Over one hundred guests enjoyed the festivities and partied away into the early hours to disco and a Motown band.

Treowen, Monmouth Wedding Photographers take Engagement photographs https://www.liz-and-stuart.co.uk/blog/2015/5/treowen-monmouth-wedding-photographers-take-engagement-photographs A sunny break in the rain lit up the Monmouthshire countryside, showing it off in all its May glory! We met with Lizzie and Henry to look round the stunning Trewoen, a private house available for weddings.  The whole house and beautiful gardens can be hired exclusively for you and your guests.  Even when we have photographed a location, we like to visit it with our clients to get a feel for what they love about it. All part of our very special wedding service.

After our exploration we decided to abandon our initial plans of going to their favourite walk for their engagement shoot; instead they opted for the views and gardens around Trewoen as they would look very different in October when they are getting married.

Lizzy kept insisting that she doesn't photograph well.... but we think you'll agree with us, that she just hasn't been photographed by Unique As You!! ;-)

Wedding Photography: What Happens On a Wedding Day https://www.liz-and-stuart.co.uk/blog/2015/4/what-happens-on-a-wedding-day Amazing wedding photography starts a long time before your day.

This is one of the most important days of your life and we really understand that. You have probably spent hours dreaming about your day, visualizing what every minute will be like.  We invest a lot of time getting to know you - hearing about your dreams, your ideas and what you want from your wedding photography.

We watch you, photograph you, laugh with you and create moments with you before your day so that we have a really good feel for who you are and how you express things with each other.  For breath-taking wedding photographs do so much more than record an action, they capture the chemistry between people.

No plastic poses, not just turning up and going through a set of standard shots that are just a 'day by numbers' in a black paged album.  We capture you, being you - a recognisable you -  using our knowledge and skills to make sure we do it in a beautiful, creative way.

First Contact

We have probably spoken to you in person at a wedding, a fayre, or on the 'phone or by email.  The next step is usually to meet somewhere for a coffee and a chat (with albums if required).  We will explain our comprehensive service, how we achieve the quality and why each wedding takes approx. 80-100 hours of our skills/time.  What - you thought we just turned up and took photos?

When you secure your booking with us, we will send you a Planner to help us begin to understand your day.  If you have Pinterest Boards or links to anything which is really significant to you then we encourage you to share it.  Just let us know if it is a secret from your partner!  It is also good to know if you share any special interests that we might be able to use to create something unique to you.

wedding photographer woodland photograph Ledbury Planning Meeting

We like to meet you both - at your location if possible.  We will spend approximately an hour talking about your day and sharing ideas. We will also ask you to go through your projected timings. Your other (excellent) suppliers usually work independently to time 'their bit' – we see the whole day and can often suggest ways to help things run smoother. An important thought...the unique photos, the ones that couples ask for, nearly always require you to dedicate time away from your guests to capture them. We LOVE to create something very unique for a couple, but need the location and time to do it. We will work together and see what you want to do.

If possible we will walk around your venue and get a feel about what excites you about it. Again, we are forming ideas all the time. :-)

Engagement Photo Session

We often combine this with the planning meeting.  This is a great way for you to learn a few of our posing tricks to help you feel confident and also realise that working with us is both easy and fun.  We also get a chance to observe how comfortable you are showing emotion in front of the camera, your private humour, the special looks or way hold each other. This way we can get the photographs that naturally show you and your love. Even those who are not comfortable in front of a camera, will surprise themselves!

The style of shoot will be based on conversations that we have had beforehand. Perhaps it will be at your wedding location, in a favourite park/woods, a playpark or where you got engaged (subject to travel).  Perhaps you share a mad hobby and want to be photographed in action, you live on a farm or perhaps you fancy a twilight fashion style shoot?

Wedding photography Graphistudio album and box

You will receive approximately 35-40 images sized  to start celebrating with your friends. We will also give you your favourite one as a complimentary 12 x 8” print. If you wish, we can create a very special handmade Italian Guest Signing Book with your prints in it to compliment your album (from £125)

Getting the Most From Your Photographs

Along the way, we will provide you with little gifts that will help you be ready for your day. If you have booked us more than a year before your wedding, then we may meet you again, just to keep things feeling good! We will take the time to keep communicating.

Your Wedding Day

This is the day when you need to be just focussing on you.  We will be there to quietly support you - intuitively reading your emotions and stepping in and out as required. Not only will be capturing your moments, but also doing lots of little extras to make sure your day is as perfect as it can be. But mostly - looking through our cameras. We achieve your beautiful images by understanding the different ‘tempos’ of a wedding day; we spend a lot of the time working as unobtrusively as possible capturing candids, at other times having fun with you in more choreographed shots and then the special intimate bride and groom photographs in a style that reflect your personality.

If the lighting, weather, locations or guests prove a little challenging, we will calmly work around it all.  This is based on all the experience we have, but also on all the training that we continuously invest in (and love!)

We will have spent hours during the previous day checking and cleaning our professional equipment. We carry complete spare kits (usually 5 complete camera kits), various lighting kits, reflectors, props, umbrellas, laptops and so much more and it will all be cleaned and checked off. This is where Stuart's RAF years come in very handy!!  We will also have done a 'reccie' of your venue if we have not been there before and a timing run.  We will have maps of alternative routes to back up our satnav. Most importantly we will have allowed extra time to get to you on the morning. If the weather looks challenging, then we will have contacted the venue to discuss a wet weather plan. Planning is key!

If you booked a whole day package, whilst you are eating your wedding breakfast, we will be doing a quick edit on a selection of images and creating a special slideshow for your guests to view on the evening. Years of experience has shown that groups huddled round a laptop in the evening creates a wonderful buzz and gives evening guests a feel of your day.

Example of an evening wedding slideshow:

  wedding video newport

By the time we get home it will probably be our 13-14th hour on the go, but when we get in, we will spend a couple of hours backing up all of our images multiple times (including off site) to ensure their safety.

Editing Process

One of us will start going through all the images, removing any where people blinked etc.  All of the images that will be uploaded to your secure, private gallery with be edited - they will be colour balanced, exposure checked and some may be re-cropped. This is quite some work and accounts for more of the hours that go into making your images exceptional.  They will then be re-sized for the web and catalogued.

Whilst this is happening, the other person will be sampling a selection of images to retouch or 'art edit'.  Each image is lovingly enhanced - literally given a spa treatment on an individual basis. These will then go into your Slideshow for FB/ personal use and, because we know our clients well by then and have a fairly good idea of the images that they will love, most of them are usually the ones chosen by clients to go in their album!

Once uploaded, we will send you an email with a password.  You get to see your images first (and can request that we remove any that you don't want others to see).  We will then send you another email which you can share with your guests when you are ready for them to view.  Guests can purchase images at very reasonable prices.

THE Album

Some clients want to choose all the images themselves and have a fairly traditional album in mind.  The trust with our clients often grows to the point that many of them leave us to create something truly magical, knowing that we see design beyond individual images.  In this case, we would ask you to choose  approx. 20 of your favourite images (for a 30 page album or more for larger albums) and then let us choose other images to 'tell the story of your day' (the average is 55-60 images in 30 page album). Clients are often amazed (if not overwhelmed) when they see their uniquely designed album.

We use Graphistudio, who are world leaders in the album market and only sell to professionals.  Each album is handmade and has so many options that we can create a bespoke design for every couple. Our 'standard' album is far from standard - it is truly beautiful. Other designs include crystal, metal, leather covers, a range of cases and boxes and you can even have raised varnish, multi-paper finishes in your album and possibly use fabric from your wedding for the cover!

If you want copies for parents, wall art or calendars, we can chat about it all. We use on the best quality pro labs so that your products will last much longer than many 'public labs'.

We lovingly design each album uniquely - we don't just drop photos into a previously used template.  We want you to have an album like no-one else's.  THAT UNIQUE,  THAT SPECIAL.  We will send you a pdf of a draft album for you to review.  We will talk through each page and make a reasonable amount of changes (if necessary).  Once signed off, it will be uploaded to Italy where it will be lovingly crafted by hand...

...waiting for that wonderful moment when you get to open it up for the first time. The moment that we truly love, as your reaction will be worth every moment that we dedicated to creating it (not that we are passionate about our work!!).

Five high ceilinged rooms filled with wedding suppliers. All arranged by Aspire Events.  As fayre photographers, we got to see it from the 'other side', but do wish that we were exhibiting as we met some really lovely brides and grooms to be!

Modern Vintage Wedding in Cheltenham https://www.liz-and-stuart.co.uk/blog/2015/3/modern-vintage-wedding-in-cheltenham A modern twist on a vintage wedding. What wonderful fun Carrie & Jaison were.  They wanted a simple, but meaningful approach to their wedding photographs.  Jaison's sense of fun came through, whilst Carrie's classic and calm personality was palpable.  We took fifteen minutes out in the Cheltenham daylight and just let their personalities shine through.  We loved Carrie's tea length dress!  Wishing them every happiness. We think you will agree that they make a lovely bride and groom to be!

Venice Carnival 2015 (Carnevale di Venezia) - masquerade costumes and palaces https://www.liz-and-stuart.co.uk/blog/2015/2/venice-carnival-2015-carnevale-di-venezia---masquerade-costumes-and-palaces Venice Carnival (Carnevale di Venezia) should be on most bucket lists.  The masquerade costumes worn by hundreds of participants are traditionally based on 17th and 18th Century ball gowns and suits, but are always completely over the top!  Increasingly fantasy costumes are making an appearance.  Rococco wigs, tricorns and masks also feature.  Some costumes cost literally thousands of euros.

The costume wearers (many are not professionals, just interested 'hobbyists') can be found all over the city - on bridges, in the cobbled streets, by the side of canals or in gondolas.  The central tourist attractions of St Mark's Square (Piazza San Marco) and Rialto Bridge are flooded with people at the weekends.  This is a festival like no other and there is something for everyone - music, fireworks, masked balls, tours and shows; with the backdrop of the regal crumbling buildings, palaces and canals...

Choosing Your Wedding Dress https://www.liz-and-stuart.co.uk/blog/2015/1/wedding-dress-and-wedding-photographs Your wedding day is one of the most important of your life. Surely every bride wants to feel beautiful (if not a little sassy too!)? Thankfully there are lots of clever designers, experienced dress shops and trusted friend to help a girl make the best choice.  Your experienced wedding photographers will also know how best to photograph you in the most flattering light, poses etc and should make you feel like the goddess you are!

So here are the nuggets of advice that we have picked up from our gorgeous brides:

Try different styles.

Whether you are a regular or reluctant clothes shopper; wedding dresses are unlike any other dress you will buy. Sound obvious?  Yes and no. You probably know what style of top, jeans, dresses suit you normally, but how many wedding dresses have you experienced? They are beautiful, yet curious items!

Bridal magazines will have your heart melting. But please don't forget that dresses are often put on a very tall, size zero model. The dresses are often pinned, shaped and 'arranged' before each photograph and then photoshopped). Lenses and angles are chosen to elongate the model or they are stood on risers.  Get excited, look at ideas, have a frock style in mind but please go with an open mind.  Who wants to start their dress hunt feeling deflated when they put 'that' dress on from the magazine only to find it didn't look at all right (great if it does!!).  Another reminder from our brides is that wedding dresses look very different on a hanger than they do on a 3D gorgeous girl!  We are going to say it again - they are VERY different from anything else you have ever worn.

But please don't try so many that you get exhausted, lose the plot and then the will to find a dress...

Fabric

Trends, taste and budget can all be a factor. From a photograph point of view, shiny fabrics reflect the light and tend to 'look a larger area' whilst sheer fabrics can go very transparent when flash is used (but a good photographer will take this into account). Fabric and designs with movement can give photos a really lovely fluid feel, whereas stiff fabrics tend to suit a more sculptured, fashion look.

Silhouette is everything!

Before your get caught up in the latest trend or the little applique and beading details, choose the dress that suits your shape first. The neckline, shape of skirt or that clever ruching over your tummy is essential to get right.  Once you have your dress shape, then the details come into play!

Don't get so caught up in trends that you forget to see the whole you. In the perfect world, women would be confident and happy with their bodies. Alas they are often the worst critics. So, if there is a part of your body that you don't like, then don't buy a gown that highlights that area just because it is fashionable.  The classic moan from brides is that they don't like their arms - and then they get talked into a strapless gown 'because everyone is wearing them' and spend all day feeling self conscious and apologising to everyone who pays them a compliment. You should feel amazing. If that strapless dress is the one, consider a shrug or scarf to 'disguise' them. Your wedding day is the one day to choose a dress that is so you it is incredible and makes you feel like a princess.  This is the one day when being a slave to fashion isn't important.  Be amazing you in the dress that is perfect for you. :-)

Your neckline is the most photographed area

Most people understand what shape of neckline flatters them. The fit is also extremely important for all shapes and sizes. Don't just view your dress whilst standing in front of the mirrors, sit down too and ask someone to look at you whilst standing in front. How flattering will it be when signing the register or at your wedding breakfast? If you are very slim, does your dress reveal too much of a gap? Curvier ladies need to ensure that they don't 'spill over the top'.

A little bit of detailing around it can also frame your head and shoulder shots.

Wiggle!

So that dress looks divine when standing still - now it is time to give it a wiggle!  Okay so you feel a bit silly, but will that strapless gown stay up as you walk, dance and meet and greet or are you going to spend the whole day pulling it up - this is neither flattering or comfortable.  If you tie it up too tight. do you develop 'muffin boobies'?!!  And if you are someone who wants fun and funky shots, do check how much you can move in your dress... you dream of shots playing and splashing by the edge of the sea, but your dress means fairy steps all day...

Wear THE bra...

... or at least a good fitting one.  A fabulous bra not only makes you a nice shape, makes you feel good, but also doesn't leave you dying of embarrassment and apologising for that off-white, curled thing that should have been binned years ago, when the assistant has to lace you in!

..and shoes

Shoes that are the height that you will want to wear on the day.  They probably won't be THE pair until you know what dress you are wearing, but you do need to be at the right height to appreciate what each dress looks like.

Don't be shocked at the size

Wedding dresses are often two or three sizes larger than your current dress size. It is a hideous fact... just before your wedding is not the time to be handed a dress much larger than you are used to.  Don't panic.

Accessorize!

This is your special day, so don't feel afraid to buy something that is special to you.  Accessories can also distract from any areas that you don't like (though we think you should love all of you!!!).  If you really hate your 'bingo wings' (probably the most frequently heard moans from brides), then consider sleeves, a shrug, bolero or even a veil..... especially if you have fallen for a sleeveless dress that would otherwise accentuate your arms.

Be open minded

That dress that you have just dismissed may be 'the one' and if your trusted person or an experienced fitter is encouraging you to try it, they may just know!  And on the subject of trusted people - one or two works really well.  Take the gang and you run the risk of getting very mixed messages.

On the subject of veils - YES PLEASE - even a borrowed one just for the photographs.  They are so much fun and make a wonderful photo prop all on their own.  They are so romantic. <3

Choosing a Wedding Venue (a photographer's perspective) https://www.liz-and-stuart.co.uk/blog/2015/1/things-to-consider-when-choosing-a-wedding-venue-a-photographers-persepctive There are some really good articles out there that advise couples about how to choose their venue to match their style, budget, guest's needs etc, but if amazing wedding photographs are important to you (and surely they should be incredibly important on this your wedding day?!!) then what points would we ask you to consider?

Well we've all seen stunning images in designer gardens, by picturesque lakes, on beautiful staircases and captivating beaches... They are a dream to have as a photographic backdrop, but few affordable venues are like that.  A great wedding photographer should be able to get some wonderful images in any location, but some things do make our life a little easier!  Things that you may like to consider...

  • Is there a backdrop for outdoor photos that you want to look at in your album for the rest of your life? It is amazing how many modern hotels offer weddings, yet have been designed purely as business venues. When looking round ask to see where photographers take photos of larger groups? Is there somewhere stunning, pleasant, neutral .. okay we will settle for not cluttered with bins, air conditioning units and cars. Or is the car park with the doggy bin all you have?

wedding photography ledbury bluebells unique-as-you.co.uk_wedding photography ledbury bluebells unique-as-you.co.uk_

  • What are the space like for your intimate, couple photos?  This will depend on the style that you want, but if your Pinterest boards are full of romantic portraits of couples surrounded by roses or playing in a maze, perhaps that dark, small-roomed urban hotel is not the venue for you. The more varied the internal and external spaces, the more... well you get our drift.

  • Season is also important.  Weddings are such emotional things (thankfully for us), but it is so easy to fall in love with the colourful rhodendrum walk on a venue's website, book quickly in excitement and not give thought to the fact that there are no flowers there in December. We would strongly suggest you visit a venue at the same time of year as you want to get married there.

  • Timings are also connected.  Now we can take 'formals' after dark, but please don't choose a venue because you are dreaming of group shots around the lake at sunset and then book a 3pm wedding in November and come out of the ceremony in darkness.   Another little thought is the travel times to your venue on the day... when there is a football match in town... or in that beautiful, classic car that will take twice as long as the journey you timed in your modern one... And now the staff want to rush you into your wedding meal and the time for daylight group photos has gone...

  • Light is what photography is all about.  Experienced photographers use a variety of lighting sources and can light capably in most situations, but natural light is a photographer's best friend and good light means less reliance on equipment. What are the lighting levels in the main room(s)?  If the lighting is harsh, unflattering or strongly coloured?  If so you might want to organise some better lighting or a different room orientation.

  • How will the décor, colours and furniture, pieces of art in your venue affect the style or look of photos? Ask someone to stand at key places in the rooms and look at what would be included in photographs. If all you can see is lamps out of heads, peeling wallpaper or a messy storage yard outside etc, consider if this really is the place for you?  And please think carefully about the bright red carpet that venues seem so fond of in the ceremony room, especially if you are having a bright pink or turquoise colour scheme? Just say no! ;-)

  • Is there appropriate heat or air conditioning?  Is there a 'backup' space if all of a sudden it starts to rain? Guests that are too hot or too cold, are often reluctant to be photographed.

  • Don’t forget that room capacities include everyone in your ceremony, not just your guests. Make sure there is room (both numerically and physically) for your celebrants, photographer and musicians.  Even babies can count in the numbers at some restricted venues.

  • Ask how many weddings are they hosting on the same day.  If you are not the only wedding, how do they manage the spaces most likely to be used for photographs? Do they have any construction or landscape work planned before or during(!) your wedding?

wedding photography malvern by unique as youwedding photography malvern by unique as you

  • Is there easy access for less physically able guests? Ask about their access facilities throughout the building. Consider what it will mean (think about the route) to food, the ceremony and THE PHOTOS.  Dignity is important to everyone! Is cousin Jane going to feel comfortable being carried through the staff changing rooms to get to her wheelchair on the patio or de-valued by being missed out and 'left behind'?

  • Can confetti be thrown?  If so, are there restrictions on where and what type?

  • Candles add so much atmosphere, but what is the venue's policy? Are naked flames allowed?

  • If you are planning 'something different' and we LOVE different.. please check with the venue before you book them.  Fireworks, hot air balloon departures, candle lanterns on the lake are all beautiful... if they are allowed.  If they are, please don't forget to tell your photographer BEFORE the day!!!

  • Entertainment like bouncy castles, sweet stalls and cycling ice cream sellers are all brilliant additions, but again, please check.. including public liability insurance.

  • Is there a room for just you two that you can use throughout the day? Not only to have 5 mins out, but to also freshen up?

Once your venue has been chosen - please be open to your photographer's ideas.  We see scenes in terms of things like light, perspective, depth of focus and other geeky stuff... but that's what creates the magic and separates picture takers from professional photographers.

At the end of the day, experienced professional photographers will always find a way of creating something good in any space.

Brecon Wedding Fayre at Barn at Brynich https://www.liz-and-stuart.co.uk/blog/2014/10/brecon-wedding-fayre-at-barn-at-brynich groomsmen brecon weddinggroomsmen brecon wedding

We had a lovely day at The Barn at Brynich who were hosting a wedding fayre.  Met lots of new people, had lots of fantastic feedback about our wedding photographs, discussed wedding photography and shared our beautiful Graphistudio wedding albums. A good use of a precious Sunday!  There are lots of lovely brides and grooms looking to get married in Brecon.  We are not surprised, it is a fabulous location for a wedding.

Don't take risks with your wedding photographs! https://www.liz-and-stuart.co.uk/blog/2014/5/is-your-wedding-photographer-able-to-cope Stuart and I were reflecting, as we always do, after a recent wedding. How did it go? What might we have done differently? etc. It was quite a challenging event (circumstances - the family were wonderful!), so we went through it step by step. It got us to thinking how someone without our experience and equipment might have coped. If you are booking a photographer we hope that you will want quality, unique photographs as well as a good deal.  If you are driven by price alone - we hope that all goes well. But this is one of the most important days of your life - one that you have invested heart, soul and 'you' into. When the cake has been eaten and the songs faded, your photographs are the one lasting memory - YOUR INVESTMENT. Choosing your photographer is a very important decision.

So not only do you need to make a choice about whether you want a record shots or something very special; but will your photographer really cope when something goes wrong? Do they have the experience? Do they have the equipment back up? Will they overcome the problem for you or add to your stress? And if it really goes wrong, do they have insurance that will allow you to get your key photos reshot? If not - how will you feel if you end up with no images at all...   Don't leave it until too late to find out....

10170979_770632396322990_8362359157531851624_n10170979_770632396322990_8362359157531851624_n What emotional cost is worth having photos 'on the cheap'?

The tale... we got to the bridal preparation to find one of the girls had had a previous severe emotional trauma and was struggling with the day.  It was Liz's years of working with children that allowed a very timid girl to flourish to the point of having her photo taken for the first time in years (much to the absolute joy of the family) and went on to enjoy the day, 'touching base' with Liz as she needed to.

When we got to the church, the (new) vicar had a 'non negotiable no photo rule' during the service. We managed to agree a compromise with him after making it clear how much we respected the service and would not intrude. We built instant trust.

As we left the service the Heavens opened. Our pro cameras allowed us to photograph in the dark church (when lesser cameras may not have coped) using as much of the natural light as possible. The ensuing gale force winds sadly stopped us from doing any outside photographs, but we had already visited the Hotel and agreed a wet weather plan with them a few days before (not many do that!).

We had the equipment and lights to allow us to take the group shots inside. Because of our skill we were able to mix our lighting with ambient light to get well exposed photographs of groups whilst allowing a view of the hills through the windows (and no flash bouncing back from the glass). Have you seen direct flash shots with the harsh shadows on the backgrounds from photographers who don't understand flash?!! Yuck!

The venue was beautiful, but was a series of small rooms linked together. Because there were two of us, we were able to separate and, as a result, get two sets of photographs of all the fun.

The bride 'fell out' with the Wedding Co-ordinator and started getting stressed. On the request of the bride, the WC left the party alone, but there was no-one to keep things going, announce the couple, arrange the cake cutting etc. With grateful thanks from our couple, we helped the Best Man to take on the role - suggesting what to say and when. He was eternally grateful! Later the bride and groom had fabulous support from Gareth at Liquid Wheel disco to keep their day flowing into the early hours.

Suddenly Stuart had a camera issue. Our kit is high quality and serviced regularly, but occasionally it happens.  No problems, he swapped to his second camera (already round his neck) and at the next available gap picked up his spare, spare kit. Yes, we have invested in a phenomenal amount of kit. Your cheaper photographer carries 4-5 cameras and lenses does he?

When we checked, there was the message that every photographer dreads - no images in folder. At first glance it looked like none of the group shots had been recorded!! Did we go into meltdown and panic? Of course not! We swung into our prepared emergency plan. 1) we knew that there had been data recorded as we had checked images as they were taken. We were fairly confident that our professional recovery programme would be able to recover the data.  2) Our meticulous working practice includes changing cards regularly so if there is an issue, then only a few images are in danger of being corrupted. 3) We carry a laptop with us so we can check.  The images were there, the card to camera link was the issue. But we could check!! No need to reshoot the group shots.  4) Very worst our (expensive to us) insurance would cover us to offer a reasonable re-shoot solution to the couple.

The bottom line is... Whatever the day threw at us, we had the knowledge, experience, training and kit to allow us to deal with it. Most importantly, our professional manner meant that we stayed positive and calm and, as usual, received many compliments from the guests about how we helped make the day special and what fun we were to be with.

So, you still want to go for that cheap photographer...

Wedding Poses: Photographing the Groom and Groomsmen https://www.liz-and-stuart.co.uk/blog/2014/5/photographing-the-groom-and-groomsmen Something for the weekend Sir?  It is fairly typical that the men are slightly less reluctant to be photographed. And who can blame them? Boys together tend to be in male social pursuits like ragging each other at the bar or playing a sport. Then along comes a photographer who wants them to look 'natural' having put them in a formal and unfamiliar pose.  The result is usually acute embarrassment, clasped hands as if defending against a free kick and rigid bodies! So how do you photograph the men in ways that works? Well the easy way is just get them to muck about and capture it - you can get great shots. However, many couples still want a formal feel to their images. One way is to reduce the eye contact that you request from the men. It can be quite powerful when the groom is the only one looking direct to camera.

Beautiful Early Summer Weddings https://www.liz-and-stuart.co.uk/blog/2014/5/beautiful-early-summer-weddings May is such a beautiful month to get married in. This country bride wore a stunning and simple garland of flowers which  was echoed in the natural beauty of this orchard.

By building in just a little time to do a location shoot on the way to your reception can allow us to create something truly magical. If it is not possible on the day, why not consider 'Rock the Frock' - a session after your wedding, without the pressures... and enjoy a session just for you....

An Insight into Wedding Make Up and Hair: Guest Blog by Jess Mac https://www.liz-and-stuart.co.uk/blog/2014/3/an-insight-into-wedding-make-up-and-hair-guest-blog-by-jess-mac Today's blog is by the talented and very lovely Jess Mac. We love her work! Jess is based in Brecon, but travels widely. She is very popular and a look at her work with show you why.  We know first hand what a difference that a fabulous makeup and hair artist can have on wedding photographs. There is a difference between pretty facial make up and professional 'sculpting'.

  • How to book the right hair and makeup artist for you

Your wedding day is what most call the best day of your life, and other's a symbol of their love and finalising their commitment before a long and happy life together. Unless you're getting married or organising events quite a lot, then booking a large venue, caterers, decorations, guest lists, dress, suits are reallydaunting.

Hair and makeup is part of a lot of women's daily routine, even if it's the simplest of things like brushing hair or a splash of colour on the cheeks...so why is it hard to choose the right hairstylist and makeup artist for you? Hopefully this can give you some insight...

  • Why are they so expensive, it's just a bit of hair styling and make up application?

Professional hair and makeup artists are NOT trying to rip you off. Prices aren't just covering the products they use (which no are not cheap) along with these products for your skin, they have a range to cover all skin types and conditions, the education and knowledge that each individual has put them self through to give you the very best service. Time contacting the bride, emails back and forth trying to help you as much as possible. Research to help you with specialist products, eg...natural/gluten free/vegan/paraben free and much more. Sanitation knowledge and products...no-one wants cross contamination...an amateur may not be fully aware. Time, experience and an up to date with the fashions and themes, eg...natural, smoky eyes, finger wave curls, plaits and braids, whimsical, unusual and much more. All of these things are because a hair and makeup artist is nothing less than artist and have a lot of pride and skill in what they do, it isn't just a hobby.

To find someone in your price bracket don't be afraid to shop around, ask questions and get as much information as possible.

  • You're getting married miles away from anywhere or anyone you really know, how do you know who to book?

If you're getting married in a location where you don't know then top internet results are good but the best is word of mouth...ask the venue who they recommend, if your only left with one option then ask the photographer, florist, even the caterer. Anyone and everyone, there will be different preferences for different reasons. These companies specialise in their fields, they meet and get to know others in the same industry and usually come across a lot of different people, word of mouth is incredible.

  • Contacting the right hair and makeup artist for you.

Once you've researched a bit more the next step is to contact them. Whether it's texting, phoning, emailing or through social media sites most people will get back to you in one way or another. From a personal opinion I would leave it 48-72 hours before contacting again if you have had no response in the first place. I can truthfully tell you that they are not ignoring you or don't want the business, it can be the simple things like an email has gone into the wrong folder...who checks their junk mail every time? Another one which happens to myself a lot is unsociable hours problem. Working a flexible job includes hours too, so if I get home at 9.30pm by the time I'm sorted I have either eaten and gone to bed or I simply don't want to ring or text at midnight! (I wouldn't appreciate it!) From this contact, after a few messages/emails etc you should get a pretty good idea whether this person is for you...the website is incredible, price is in your budget but they don't understand what you really want, they are being awkward with their answer or at worst - rude, then they are not for you. Remember you are not friends with everyone so there is no saying you're going to get along with them, everyone has such different personalities, it is what makes us human.

  • They are too expensive?

Ever seen a dress which is out of your price range but your heart melts when you wear it? This is the same, you love their portfolio, they have the same vision as you and understand your needs...they are just slightly out of your budget...it's decision time! A true professional hair and makeup artist will be as accommodating as possible, they may not however bargain or barter. Like mentioned before, not to rip you off but because it is also a business. ...You wouldn't ask for money off products in a shop because it's too expensive... What they should do however is help with a solution, whether it be offering a less expensive member of their team or suggesting alternative artists. There is always the option of having a few less other things, your face and hair will be on show for the entire day and will be the memory on your photographs for the rest of life, you may end up paying more in the long run if you hire an amateur

  • Loyalty to your current hairdresser/beautician?

If your current hairdresser/beautician specialises in this industry then you have the perfect situation, someone you already trust who will give you honest opinions and advice. However if this isn't your situation then you shouldn't feel one bit guilty. You are not 'cheating' on them. They should want the best for you too!

  • I do my hair and face all the time so will do it.

No. Well unless you know you can hide those hair pins, get a flawless, skin matching foundation that doesn't slip, not get flashback from the photos, make sure your lippy doesn't bleed and be clown like. If you know what you're doing then who am I to tell you to hire a professional. I would though, take into account how stressed you or the bridal party may get, how well your bridesmaids can apply hair and makeup, it won't only be you in your photos remember! Us hair and makeup artists go above and beyond to provide a sense of calm and well being which at the end of the day is priceless.

oOo

So just a few reminders... * DO shop around * DO ask questions * DO be patient, we are only but human * Really think about your budget and what's really important to you * Do NOT let them bully you into deciding * DO take advice, if they suggest a colour of style, it can always be changed * Do NOT settle if you aren't comfortable, they are definitely not worth it if they get offended * Please speak up if you are NOT comfortable, we really can't read minds * Do NOT leave it until last minute, you should think of it as a part of your final dressed look

These are but a few things that hopefully give you a bit of insight into why hair and makeup artists do, say and charge what we do, and give you some help when looking into booking yours. Good luck and of course have a wonderful day! :)

You may loose your LIKED pages on FB unless you take action! https://www.liz-and-stuart.co.uk/blog/2014/3/you-may-loose-your-liked-pages-on-fb-unless-you-take-action

Apparently... FACEBOOK has recently changed its rules for Business Pages (again!!). A person has to be 'active' on your page a minimum of three times within any calendar month period. This means a 'like' of a picture, a comment or a full post on the wall.

If you are not active on a page, your 'like' will be removed from their page after a while, as FB has decided that you are not interested in their page! You will miss out and so will we!
So, if you are a fan of any pages, do make sure you are regularly active. Even just one quick post a week will ensure that the page will remain in your timeline... It's also been found that the more Likes or Comments any one post receives, the more people that see it in their Newsfeed.
Our wedding, portrait and boudoir photography is reliant on us being able to get offers and ideas to you. Please help keep small Businesses running.

Top Tips for Choosing a Wedding Photographer https://www.liz-and-stuart.co.uk/blog/2014/3/top-tips-for-choosing-a-wedding-photographer unique as you blog 2unique as you blog 2

OUR TOP 3 'UNIQUE' TIPS FOR THAT PERFECT WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY...

3) You've found your reception place. Talk to your photographer before setting any timings for meals, transport, drinks etc. We have so much experience with how long to allow - timings can... make such a difference!

2) Choose the photographer(s) that you feel really comfortable with. Your photographer is often one of the closest people to you on your special day... choose someone who will make you feel calm and beautiful! Trust is so important.

1) If your photography is cheap... so are the results and the service you get. Invest in capturing all the emotions and details of your very special day.. cheap photography was the number 1 regret of Brides in a recent magazine survey...

Wedding photography should not be thought of as a cheap commodity. You are paying someone to record special images from one special day of your life which will last you a lifetime and beyond, to become family heirlooms.

Things to ask your 'budget' photographer...
Can you see their public liability and indemnity insurances?
Can they provide a cover note for your specific event if asked to do so?
Do they carry 4+ cameras, spare duplicate lenses, flashes etc?
Do they have capability to shoot indoors, either a very high spec pro camera or pro lights, if the weather is bad?
Can they show you indoor shots (do they look well lit or are there harsh shadows?)
What experiences can they talk about where things 'went off plan' and how they dealt with it/ became part of the solution.
Can they show you examples of wet weather, storms, poor lighting, tiny space photography?

Ask to see photographs out of camera and fully edited.  Budget editing tends to be bulk light balancing and that's it. A high end photographer will spend days editing your images to make them as excellent as they can be and then more hours creating a beautiful album for you.  Each photo will get individual attention - giving you the investment in your future heirlooms that you deserve.

Huffington Post article "Things to consider when choosing a wedding photographer" https://www.liz-and-stuart.co.uk/blog/2014/3/huffington-post-article-things-to-consider-when-choosing-a-wedding-photographer An article by Emma McIntyre for The Huffington post...but we loved it so much, we had to repost!

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/emma-mcintyre/things-to-consider-wedding-photographer_b_983931.html

A wedding is one of the most intimate and overwhelming experiences you will ever have. You are publicly declaring and celebrating your most important and private relationship in the company of family members (for better or worse) and friends.

As obvious as that sounds, I think the intimacy factor is one of the more important things to consider when choosing a wedding photographer. Regardless of how much you love the work on their site or the pricing and packages they offer, it's really crucial to feel comfortable with this person being in your intimate space all day. Take the time to get to know this person, interview more than one photographer, and really weigh up the decision with a lot of questions.

Is this someone who stays calm and is a problem solver? Will this person be able to easily integrate into my crazy family and stay professional? Or is this person a bit high strung and prone to terrible one-liners and phony concepts they will roll out during portrait sessions, i.e. "Put your hand on his shoulder and look like you're giving him some hard advice." Will this person force you to do the 'reenactment' so beloved by videographers? "Can you just take off the boutonnière again and reaffix it? I missed the shot. Thanks."

You can't recreate a wedding, or any of the moments within it. It's the ultimate documentary assignment and your photographer, whoever they turn out to be, only has one shot. For me, the highest compliment from clients comes in the form of statements like: "You were basically invisible and we didn't even notice you there taking these beautiful shots." Less presence is more when it comes to photography.

So, now you've met a photographer and think you can picture them fitting in seamlessly on your big day. What else? Trust. Do they seem genuine and as if they will fulfill the grand promises they make? Do you they have a lot of experience and albums and portfolios to prove it or are they an amateur who will give you a great deal?

As enticing as it is to spend less money, it's pretty much a guarantee that you will get less value. Consider that the photographer is one of the only vendors you will continue to have contact with after the wedding day has passed. You want to implicitly trust that they will deliver the images to you in a timely fashion and, more importantly, that you will love them. I know people who have waited YEARS for their photos and photographers who have lost entire weddings and tried to go rogue and shirk the responsibility. One of the best ways to figure this out is through research, by speaking to their previous clients and looking on bridal blogs. Brides like to dish it and you can often find a huge amount of helpful information that way. If they have a sketchy reputation online, it's probably for a reason.

Style. In your mind you want something a little alternative, artistic and candid. A lot of photographers purport to shoot in this fashion, but don't. And there are other photographers who are so militant about the integrity of their work and their candid style that they will outright refuse to take a posed photo of you and your Aunt Betty (true story.) There should always be a happy medium.

Be clear about your expectations, draw on examples of work you love and share it with your photographer. And again, research your photographer. Do they exclusively shoot weddings? Do they work in editorial or on personal projects that also reflect the kind of style you are after? Do you really want candid shots but know that your mom wants formals? Strike a balance and find someone you know can handle all sorts of lighting scenarios and family scenarios, and still produce something amazing.

And lastly, for the love of God, please don't hire your uncle.
